Portugal has around 54 mosques and praying halls all over the country. Some of them are old, and some of them are new. Lisbon has a higher number of mosques compared to other cities.
Is Portugal a good country to move to for a Muslim family?
Yes, Portugal is a good country to move to if you are a Muslim. Depending on how conservative you are, Portugal can be a good or a bad place to live. The more conservative, the worse. Laws in Portugal respect every religion. Even though Portugal has a very small community of Muslim people, they are treated equally with people from other religions. However, if you are very much conservative, you may find it a bit difficult to adjust in Portugal.
Why are there so few Muslims in Portugal?
Portugal has few Muslims because Portugal isn’t a Muslim country. In fact, the majority of people in Portugal are Christians. Muslims in Portugal are mainly immigrants. Mainly Muslims come from other countries to Portugal. The majority of Muslims in Portugal come from Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and India. Portugal has also welcomed many Syrian refugees lately.
As Portugal has a majority of Christian people, Muslims find it a bit difficult to adjust in the country.

Lisbon Central Mosque
The Central Mosque of Lisbon is the main mosque of the Portuguese Islamic community. It is located at Rua da Mesquita, near Praça de Espanha, in 1070-238 Lisbon. The mosque is Europe’s third largest mosque outside of Turkey.
The mosque contains reception halls, a prayer hall, and an auditorium. The Central Mosque has formed a council to provide financial and other services to members of the local Muslim community.
