Cyprus doesn’t have any Volcanoes at the present, but Cyprus might have had a volcanic eruption in the past, as the data shows.
Are you familiar with the Troodos mountains of Cyprus?
If you aren’t, then let me tell you something, Troodos is the largest mountain range in Cyprus, roughly located at the center of the island. Troodos is widely famous because it’s the only place in Cyprus where Snow falls.
Troodos isn’t actually only famous for that. The Troodos mountains are also known worldwide for their geology, and an undisturbed ophiolite sequence called the Troodos Ophiolite.
What is Ophiolite?
In simple words, an ophiolite is a section of the earth’s oceanic crust that has been uplifted and exposed above sea level and formed land.
The Troodos mountains slowly rose from the sea due to the collision of the African and European tectonic plates, a process that eventually formed the island of Cyprus.

How can we say Cyprus might have had Volcanoes?
When we look at the components that created the Troodos Mountains, we can find an assemblage of volcanic, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks.
Now, volcanic rock is a kind of rock that is formed from lava erupted from a volcano.
If Cyprus didn’t have a volcano in the past, would there be volcanic rock found in the mountains?
I guess not. Hence, there was a volcanic eruption in Cyprus in the past.
